Jonathan Harding is the corporation counsel for the City of Hartford. He leads the legal department of the city and provides legal counsel to all of the city’s elected officials, departments, boards and commissions.
Before joining the city, Harding served as associate general counsel to Gov. Ned Lamont. He started his legal career as an assistant attorney general for the state of Connecticut, and served in that capacity for 10 years.

What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?
Serving as corporation counsel for the City of Hartford is one of the great honors of my life. In that capacity, I lead an entire legal department of incredible public servants and make critical decisions daily that have a direct effect on the citizens and the business community of the city.
How are you involved in the community?
I serve on the boards of the West End Civic Association and the iQuilt Partnership. I previously served as a commissioner on the Hartford Planning and Zoning Commission, the Hartford Democratic Town Committee, Noah Webster Microsociety Magnet School Governance Council, and mentored at CREC Impact Academy.
Why do you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty?
• I have been a tireless public servant that has dedicated my entire legal career to work that benefits the public at large.
• I thrive in high-pressure, dynamic work environments. I welcome professional challenges and always seek to produce the highest-quality work product.
• I always treat my colleagues and the public at large with respect, dignity and compassion.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love spending time with my family, especially my wife and two young boys. I enjoy DIY projects around the house and learning new skills. I spend my free time cooking for family and friends, home brewing beer, hunting, fishing and gardening.
