Jon-Paul Venoit is responsible for the strategic vision, leadership and operational health of Connecticut’s largest not-for-profit senior care continuum. His responsibilities include strategic leadership, short- and long-term planning, operational management, financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, stakeholder engagement and leadership development.
What have been your biggest professional accomplishments over the past year? Hands down, my biggest accomplishment has been the building and development of a leadership team equipped to tackle the ever-evolving landscape of the healthcare industry. Our journey from uncertainty to sustainability and growth has been driven by a dedicated group of leaders who embraced the challenge of turning our company around.
This team adopted innovative strategies to address the most pressing challenges facing the healthcare industry today, ensuring that we remained competitive and relevant in a rapidly changing environment.
In what ways are you involved in the community? I have served as the vice chair of the Wallingford Planning and Zoning Commission and commissioner of the Wallingford Ethics Committee. I am the vice chair of LeadingAge Connecticut. I am the former chair of the Wallingford Education Foundation and serve on the board of visitors for the University of Hartford.
I am the former chair of the Connecticut Assisted Living Association board and their Institute for Senior Living Education, and chair the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
Guiding business principle: Know and remember your why. Understanding your ‘why’ is essential for driving motivation and purpose in your life and work. It helps clarify goals and align actions with your values.
Knowing and reflecting on your why will guide your decisions, keep you focused during challenges, and inspire you to achieve goals you may have never imagined possible.
Best way to keep your competitive edge: Don’t be afraid of change, be afraid of not changing. Embracing change means growth, new opportunities and progress. Stagnation, on the other hand, limits your potential.
Change can be challenging, but it’s essential for personal and professional development. Embrace the unknown, adapt and evolve.
Best business decision: At the age of 16, I joined Masonicare in the food service department, not knowing the incredible journey ahead. Growing up within this organization, I watched and learned from those around me, gaining insights into every facet of our operations.
Little did I know, I would someday stand at the helm of the organization. Today, I am proud to continue our tradition of excellence and commitment to serving our community.
Worst business decision: I’ve made many decisions over the span of my career — none of them bad, as each one has taught me valuable lessons. These experiences have shaped who I am as a person and a leader today. Embracing every challenge and learning from every outcome has been instrumental in my growth and success, both personally and professionally.
