What have been your significant contributions to your organization in the past year?

It has been a busy year for our agency with multiple successful accreditation visits and having to navigate the changing healthcare standards. I have been fortunate to work with people who have the same values of empathetic and safe patient care, collaborative problem-solving, and respect.

It is those values that brought us together in successfully implementing the 1115 waiver, passing the Health Resources and Services Administration operational site visit, and restructuring our programs to align them with what our patients’ needs are.

Tell us about a challenge in your job that you were able to overcome.

Change is often difficult to manage, especially for the people we serve. The state of Connecticut has made significant changes to how substance-use care needs to be delivered.

Over the last two years, I have led our agency efforts to be fully compliant with all standards, train staff, and obtain full American Society of Addiction Medicine certification for all our programs. We were able to manage this change by collaborative work of all of our staff and never losing sight of what is best for our patients.

What’s your next major goal and/or challenge?

In addition to my continued efforts to improve the system of care for our patients, I also will be working on establishing a risk management program and a new training program for our staff, with special emphasis on supporting new leader development.
