Yale has secured a national fashion retailer to take over space in The Shops at Yale formerly occupied by L.L. Bean.
2nd Street USA, a player in the resale, second-hand and sustainable fashion retail market, has signed a long-term lease for 7,600 square feet on two floors at 272 Elm St., in downtown New Haven, Yale officials said Tuesday.
This will be 2nd Street’s first Connecticut location, which is expected to open in August, according to the school, which owns The Shops at Yale.
L.L. Bean closed its downton New Haven store in February.
David DelVecchio, director of real estate asset management for Yale University Properties, said the space was fully built out and well-maintained with lots of interest from prospective tenants.
2nd Street has locations in New York City, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, and DelVecchio said he expects the New Haven location to draw consumers from around Connecticut and surrounding states.
“Sustainable fashion is one of the fastest-growing markets, and 2nd Street USA is one of the industry leaders. They will bring value and eco-conscious options to Downtown New Haven, which will appeal to our student population, New Haven residents, and those living in the surrounding towns,” DelVecchio said.
