Life is a journey. Every day there is a back and forth of going places, meeting and exceeding goals, and forging new connections. But the places we have been and the places we want to go shape who we are and how the world sees us. You'll discover this in the following pages highlighting this year's excellent 40 Under Forty class. Every place they have traveled has shaped them into people worthy of being called the 40 best young professionals in Greater Hartford.
Whether it is speaking at a conference in Orlando, having a life-changing experience in Haiti, walking into a college advisor's office and walking out with a new determination, or seeing a parent overcome a life-or-death struggle, each of this year's winners has a story to tell about how a journey — whether across the globe or in their own minds — helped shape their successful careers in the business and nonprofit worlds.
HBJ's 40 Under Forty awards identifies young leaders who have already had success but who also have the potential to lead the professional world of tomorrow.
These individuals want to lead both in the board room and in life in general.
They want to climb the Seven Summits of the World. They want to see exotic things. They want to win Nobel Prizes and treat or cure diseases. They want to help people lead better lives. A surprisingly large number of this year's winners want to travel to Africa, either to see the Great Pyramids in Egypt or go on safari. Perhaps they can all share a charter flight.
So, join us in congratulating this exceptional group of young professionals. Like the rest of us, they are taking life's journey and learning from all it has to teach them. They understand that while we are all on life's journey, the key to finding success in the past, the present and the future is to make that path well-worn, to live beyond expectations and embrace the surrounding world.
