Connecticut had 45 private companies rank among the 5,000 fastest growing in the country, according to a new ranking from Inc. magazine.
Inc. released its Inc. 5,000 list for 2023, which identifies the fastest growing private companies in the country. A total of 45 Connecticut companies placed, accounting for 193% median growth and 2,138 jobs added, Inc. said. Seven of those companies were newly founded, according to Inc., with 30 repeat honorees on the list.
Four Connecticut companies placed in the top 500: Knocking at 161; Athletic Brewing Co. at 245; Over the Top Marketing at 254; and Axela Construction at 420.
Fairfield-based Knocking is a tech and e-commerce company that partners with brands to help publicize their products across multiple mediums, according to the company. The company placed 664 in 2022.
Athletic Brewing operates non-alcoholic breweries in Milford and San Diego, California, distributing nationally. The company was ranked 26 on last year’s list after a year of expansion.
Over The Top Marketing, also in Milford, is a streaming TV media buying agency that analyzes data to deliver targeted commercials to viewers. Waterbury-based Axela Construction is a full-service commercial construction company. Both companies made their first appearance on the list this year, according to Inc.
Companies are ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2019 to 2022, Inc. said. Qualifying companies must have been founded and generated revenue by March 31, 2019, and must be U.S.-based, privately held, for-profit, and independent as of December 31, 2022.
