Connecticut’s state-college system will oversee an $8 million federal grant to expand the number of advanced manufacturing apprenticeships among private employers.
Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) President Mark Ojakian said Thursday the U.S. Department of Labor grant will build upon this state’s successful apprenticeship programs, including the pre-apprenticeship pipeline led by the Eastern Workforce Development Board.
In addition to administering the grant, CSCU’s other partners, including Pratt & Whitney, Electric Boat, Lockheed Martin and IBM, have committed $2.8 million in matching funds for the apprenticeships.
Medium and small companies, like Sound Manufacturing, will also benefit from the new programs, Ojakian said.
