The Hartford Yard Goats on Wednesday announced the team’s 2023 promotional schedule, with just eight weeks until opening day at downtown Hartford’s Dunkin’ Park.

The team’s 68-game home schedule is filled with numerous promotional and theme nights, celebrity guest appearances, fireworks shows and giveaways.

The home opener for the Yard Goats, the Double-A Eastern League affiliate of Major League Baseball’s Colorado Rockies, is April 6 against the Bowie Baysox.

Among the celebrities who will make appearances at Dunkin’ Park this spring and summer are “Office” actress Kate Flannery (May 3) and actor John O’Hurley (Aug. 31), probably best known for portraying J. Peterman on Seinfeld.

Other promotions include:

  • The sixth annual ‘Whalers Alumni Weekend’ will be held over two games, July 21 and July 22. Players will wear special uniforms to pay tribute to the former NHL team. In addition, many former Whalers players will take part that weekend in various activities.
  • The team and Marvel Entertainment will showcase its ‘Marvel’s Defenders of the Diamond’ campaign and players will wear special edition Marvel super-hero branded jerseys. In addition, other Marvel-themed promotions will take place during the game on May 18.
  • The team will celebrate the sport’s Hispanic culture when they play as the Los Chivos de Hartford (which translates to the Goats of Hartford) on May 5, June 8, Aug. 19 and Sept. 9.
  • The team will celebrate Negro League Baseball on June 23, and honor Johnny “Schoolboy” Taylor, who was the first Black athlete to play professional baseball in the city of Hartford.
  • The team will also have numerous ‘themed’ nights, including celebrating and recognizing Star Wars on May 4; country music on Aug. 17; and the popular book and movie series ‘Princess & Pirates’ on Aug. 4. There will also be a night celebrating Irish culture on April 21 and, for the first time, there will be an Italian night on Aug. 16.

The team, as it does every year, will also hold games that bring awareness to various causes and community initiatives. They include games recognizing the LGBTQ community; first responders; breast cancer awareness; and the military, among others.

The Yard Goats have also designated 13 dates, including July 4, for post-game fireworks.
