Andrew Salak is an associate director at Fiduciary Investment Advisors. FIA is an independent, employee-owned investment consulting firm, currently advising over $76 billion in total client assets. In his role, Salak works with private clients, endowments and foundations in a variety of capacities to assess and service their needs.
He has been advising individuals and investment committees for over 10 years and has a wide range of expertise in investment management, financial planning and client relations. Prior to joining FIA in this leadership role, Salak was a financial advisor at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.
What's been the biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?
I feel very proud to have landed my current role at FIA, a position the firm interviewed over 50 candidates for. One of my main initiatives was building out the private client group division. We have nearly doubled the assets we advise on, from $800 million to $1.5 billion in less than four years, and significantly increased the number of families we serve. At the same time, our team has doubled in size as well.
How are you involved in the community?
Through work-sponsored events I have recently volunteered for many local nonprofits. I also serve on the professional advisory committee for Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Tennis is my favorite pastime. Winning three singles state championships and two team titles in high school led me to a scholarship playing Division I tennis at Fordham University. Off the tennis court, I love spending time with my family: my wife, Lauren and two girls, Joy and Rosie.
What must the Greater Hartford region do to attract more talented young professionals?
The Greater Hartford region needs to do everything it can to break the stigma that Hartford is a city in decline. We need to celebrate our recent successes like the development of Front Street, UConn's downtown campus and Dunkin' Donuts Park, and relentlessly market the region as a great place to live, work and play.
Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty:
• I am dedicated to giving back to the community and trying to bring people together toward the common goal of uplifting our region.
• I see a great future for Hartford and will continue to highlight all the wonderful assets we have.
• I remain actively involved in the areas of my life that have helped mold me. I currently serve as the president of Fordham University's Connecticut Alumni Chapter and first VP of Hartford Tennis Club.
• I am fortunate to have found success in my professional career and do everything I can to help mentor people, both in and out of the workplace.
Fun Fact
A few years ago I played in an exhibition doubles match against tennis legend, Ivan Lendl … and won.
