Aquarion Water Co. has finalized plans to acquire a community water system in Plymouth, Massachusetts for $15 million, the Bridgeport-based company announced.
Pinehills Water Co.’s community water system serves 2,700 customers, with an anticipated increase to 3,100 when the community is completed.
The acquisition marks the 11th water system purchased by Aquarion in Massachusetts and New Hampshire since December 2021.
"Today marks a significant milestone for our company as we welcome The Pinehills community into the Aquarion family," Donald Morrissey, president of Aquarion, said Wednesday. "This acquisition represents a significant addition to our expanding investment in Massachusetts and stands as the largest acquisition outside of Connecticut in over two decades."
The purchase price included existing water infrastructure, such as water mains, hydrants, wells, pumping stations and tanks. The rates for water service will not change.
The acquisition was approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities on June 15.
Aquarion, owned by Eversource Energy, supplies water to more than 750,000 people in 72 cities and towns in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. It is the largest investor-owned water utility in New England.
