Dr. Latha Alaparthi, a gastroenterologist who practices in the New Haven region, has been named president and chair of the board of directors of the Digestive Health Physicians Association (DHPA).

Alaparthi previously served as vice president of DHPA. She is the director of committee operations at PACT Gastroenterology Center in Hamden.

Alaparthi and members of DHPA’s 12-member Executive Committee will lead the organization’s health policy efforts.

Alaparthi is the first woman president of DHPA, and she succeeds Dr. James Weber, the founder of Texas Digestive Disease Consultants and CEO of the GI Alliance, who will remain on the DHPA executive committee as immediate past president.

“With Dr. Weber at its helm, DHPA further strengthened its position as the voice for independent GI practices and the patients we serve,” Alaparthi said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to build upon the leadership of prior presidents as the first woman president of DHPA.”
