Area home sales jump 8% in Jan.

Greater Hartford house sales soared in January while the average sale price fell slightly, Realtors say.

There were 695 single-family units sold last month, up almost 8 percent from 644 units sold in Jan. 2018, according to the Greater Hartford Association of Realtors (GHAR).

“The rise in closed sales is a positive sign for the winter season,” said GHAR CEO Holly Callanan.

Meantime, the median price for sold units decreased 1.2 percent to $138,450 vs. $149,000 last year.

The area’s condominium/townhome market worsened in January, with a 19 percent decrease in sales to 136 units sold compared to 168 sold in the year-ago period. Their median sales price also fell 7 percent to $138,450.
