As major downtown Hartford employer Travelers Cos. welcomes more employees back to its offices this spring, it’s greeting workers with a new, expansive cafeteria.
The property and casualty insurer, which updated much of its downtown Hartford office space during the pandemic, is showcasing its 53,000-square-foot cafeteria that includes 10 primary food and drink stations and can seat up to 700 employees.
The new cafeteria, located in the Travelers Plaza building downtown, includes ease-of-use features such as grab-and-go and touchless self-checkout areas, along with collaborative spaces for groups, conferencing capabilities and a teaching kitchen that provides hands-on cooking classes with expert chefs, the company said.
It also includes an indoor, hydroponic garden.
Travelers has undertaken a multiyear plan to renovate most of its downtown Hartford office space. It notified Hartford landlords last year that it planned to cede about 150,000 square feet of leased space downtown as it consolidates more employees to its owned office buildings, including the iconic Travelers Tower.
The company has been welcoming more of its employees back to the office in recent weeks, after nearly two years of many workers operating remotely. Travelers, however, has adopted a hybrid work environment, in which employees spend some days in the office, and other days working remotely.
