Avelo Airlines celebrated the launch of its seventh new route and second international route this month at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks on Wednesday.
The airline now offers nonstop service to Cancun, Mexico (CUN), with one-way fares starting at $99. It will operate the route twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, it said.
Earlier this month, Avelo added six other new nonstop routes from Bradley, including flights to North Carolina's Charlotte/Concord (USA) and Wilmington (ILM); Florida's Daytona Beach (DAB) and Orlando/Lakeland (LAL)’ Houston via Hobby (HOU); and its other international destination, Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ).
Avelo has established dual operations in Connecticut, at Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) in New Haven and at Bradley. The company said it will position two aircraft and employ about 80 people in Windsor Locks.
Its regional base of operations, located at Tweed, is the company’s largest and employs more than 300 people. The airline recently celebrated three years of service at Tweed, from which it has flown more than 2.7 million customers on over 20,000 flights.
In July, Avelo CEO Andrew Levy said adding the flights from Bradley represents the largest route expansion in the airline’s history.
With the addition of the new nonstop flights at Bradley, Avelo now serves 33 nonstop routes from Connecticut, it said.
