Avelo Airlines announced a new route to South Carolina on Thursday, making the Greenville-Spartanburg flight the airline’s 15th non-stop destination from Tweed New Haven Airport.
The new flights are set to start on June 22, with introductory fares starting at $49 each way. Flights to Greenville-Spartanburg will take off twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays.
Avelo said in a statement the new route from Tweed New Haven (HVN) would be the first nonstop service from Connecticut to South Carolina’s Upcountry region, known for its proximity to the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The airline is also launching service to and from Greenville-Spartanburg to Orlando, its Southeast hub.
Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said, “The addition of Greenville-Spartanburg represents the continued momentum and growth we are experiencing at our HVN base.”
Avelo's flights have resulted in parking issues at Tweed, which straddles the New Haven-East Haven border. New Haven’s City Plan Commission has voted in recent months to approve more than 200 new parking spaces on airport property despite neighbors’ environmental concerns.
