In a couple of days, travelers will have a new option to get to Bermuda from Hartford’s Bradley International Airport.
BermudAir on Thursday will start flying two direct flights a week between Bradley and the British island.
“The Northeast U.S. and Canada are our prime markets,” said Adam Scott, a former Toronto banker who founded BermudAir in September 2023. “Bradley is a perfect market for us because there are a lot of Bermudians that want to get to the general Hartford area.”
The Connecticut Airport Authority in mid-November announced BermudAir’s plans to start offering flights between Bradley and Bermuda.
The Bermuda-based airline, which offers one-way trips for as low as $99 per passenger, holds flights year-round, Scott said.
“Initially we're launching with two flights a week on Thursdays and Sundays, which is perfect for those in Hartford that want to come across and play a nice couple of games of golf on a long weekend, or come and do business,” Scott told the Hartford Business Journal. “Hopefully, over time, we'll be able to build upon that and add frequency.”
BermudAir currently flies between Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport and Baltimore, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Boston, White Plains, New York, Toronto and Halifax.
By the end of June, it plans to offer flights to and from Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina, Providence, Rhode Island, Richmond, Virginia and Montreal.
BermudAir uses two airplanes – an 88-passenger Embraer 175 and a 114-passenger Embraer 190 – and expects to expand its fleet to four planes by May, Scott said.
“I think we can, we can comfortably build to probably five or six aircraft,” he said.
Flights connecting Bradley to Bermuda take about two hours, and passengers can get cleared for U.S. Customs and Border Patrol before leaving the island, he said.
“When you return back to the U.S., you arrive as a domestic arrival, so you get rid of all the stress and aggravation of otherwise having to go through customs, immigration,” Scott said. “It's a beautiful process, and it makes the ease of traveling to and from Bermuda a great one.”
