Maine's largest accounting firm BerryDunn said Tuesday it has acquired a Connecticut firm that will expand its veterinary and construction practices.
The Portland-based accounting and consulting firm said it has purchased East Haven-based Burzenski & Co. Terms of the deal, which became effective Dec. 1, were not disclosed.
Established in 1983, Burzenski has worked with more than 150 clients in the veterinary industry. The firm also provides financial management and tax planning services for general contractors, subcontractors, developers, real estate agents and home builders.
It will assume the BerryDunn name, while continuing to operate from its East Haven office.
The acquisition will enable BerryDunn to expand into the veterinary practice market and add to its existing construction practice. It will also add 34 people to the BerryDunn team.
BerryDunn was ranked No.1 among Maine’s largest accounting firms in the 2024 Mainebiz Book of Lists. The ranking was based on the firm's 2022 revenue of $97.7 million. At that time, the firm listed 54 Maine-based CPAs and a total of 951 Maine employees.
“[Burzenski] approached us because they were drawn to our fast-growing outsourced accounting team and well-established construction and health care practices, which would allow them to expand their veterinary and construction practices,” said Sarah Belliveau, CEO of BerryDunn.
“This market appealed to us because it allows us to deepen our footprint in Connecticut and throughout southern New England,” she continued. “We look to match with companies that match our values and industries as much or more than we look at specific geographic locations.”
Bill Kalinowski, managing partner at Burzenski & Co., added: “Our team will benefit from the expanded resources and leadership of BerryDunn, enhancing our ability to drive exceptional client service."
Founded in 1974, BerryDunn provides assurance, tax, and consulting services to businesses, nonprofits and government agencies.
