Boy Scouts organization serving thousands statewide relocating to downtown Hartford

COSTAR 60 Darlin St., East Hartford.

A Boy Scouts organization serving thousands of children across Connecticut will soon move to downtown Hartford after selling its East Hartford headquarters to a local engineering and architecture firm.

The Connecticut Rivers Council of the Boy Scouts of America recently sold its 12,087-square-foot, two-story office building on 2 acres at 60 Darlin St., for $860,000 to a limited liability company associated with design firm Russell and Dawson. The deed was recorded Nov. 18.

Russell and Dawson will move to the East Hartford building, an upgrade from the 4,400-square-foot office building it currently owns and occupies at 1111 Main St., in East Hartford, according to broker O,R&L Commercial, which facilitated the sale.

Rob Montesi, of Goman + York Property Advisors, represented Russell and Dawson.

In an email response to questions, Connecticut Rivers Council CEO Mark Switzer wrote that his organization is finalizing a lease for new office space in downtown Hartford.
No further information about the potential location was provided.

The move coincides with the Boy Scout's pending rebrand to Scouting America and its fifth anniversary of welcoming girls into its programs, Switzer noted.

The Connecticut Rivers Council provides scouting programs and services to more than 8,000 boys and girls throughout Connecticut, according to its website

The council will work with its new neighbors and other youth agencies to provide experiences outdoors and elsewhere, Switzer wrote. The proceeds of the East Hartford sale will be added to the council's endowment fund, with interest used to offset the rent on the new office.

The move to Hartford will also provide more efficient, appropriately sized space with less overhead costs, Switzer wrote.

The council's scout shop will also move to downtown Hartford.

Luke Massirio, of O,R&L, represented the seller.
