Bradley launches three new services for travelers; one allows passengers to ship home prohibited items

Travelers at Bradley International Airport who accidentally brought a prohibited item to the facility now have an option to ship it home rather than surrender it with the launch of a new service.

The Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA) announced this week that three new pilot programs have started at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks.

Among the three trial programs is Flippit, a New York-based company that allows passengers who are traveling with a prohibited item to keep it rather than giving it up to TSA. The company has a patent-pending “quick-drop” system that uses smartphones and mobile payments to allow users to pack, insure and track whatever the item is. A red Flippit dropbox is located next to the TSA screening checkpoint, the CAA said.

The other two services, SimpliFly and Swift UV, aim to help travelers in other ways. SimpliFly is a phone application that gives users a video course on all aspects of aviation, relaxation and breathing exercises, and the ability to live chat with an airline pilot. The app can be downloaded for free but premium content is locked behind a paywall.

Swift UV, a product from Avon-based iCleanse, is a chemical-free compact phone disinfection unit that cleans phones in seconds. Four Swift UV stations have been deployed at Bradley, the CAA said.

Airport officials said they’ll monitor engagement and feedback for the three services during the one-year trial period.
