A Branford-based biotech, Enrich Therapeutics Inc., recently secured a 12-month Small Business Innovation Research contract from the National Cancer Institute.

The contract, announced in September, is for just under $400,000, financed with federal dollars.

The company said it plans to use the award to further develop its cell/tissue sample processing and cell isolation technology.

According to the company, it is dedicated to helping scientists worldwide map human cells, especially tumor cells, to better understand diseases such as cancer and find better treatments.

Enrich aims to enhance global biomedical research at the single cell level, leading to more effective drugs and treatments, while also offering affordability.

“With this financial support from NCI, Enrich expects to provide a robust sample processing platform,” the company said, in an announcement.

Kien Pham, a research scientist in pathology with Yale School of Medicine, and a team from the school’s pathology department, will collaborate on the project.

Enrich Therapeutics was founded in July 2018. It previously was located at the BioCT incubator in Groton and in space in Worcester, Mass.

In February 2021 the company announced it was expanding with a move to a 5,500-square-foot lab and office space at Business Park in Branford.
