Breeze Airways expanding to Tweed, adding 10 new nonstop routes

Contributed Breeze Airways has added five nonstop flights from Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks.

Breeze Airways is expanding its presence in Connecticut to Tweed-New Haven Airport later this year, the airline announced Tuesday, just weeks after Tweed’s only current carrier Avelo Airlines said it would be expanding into Breeze’s backyard at Bradley International Airport.

Nonstop service from Tweed-New Haven Airport will begin in December with Florida destinations including Fort Myers, Orlando, West Palm Beach and Vero Beach rolling out across the month.

Then in February, Breeze will launch six other nonstop routes to: Charleston, South Carolina; Jacksonville, Florida; Norfolk, Virginia; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; Richmond, Virginia; and Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida.

The company called the move an expansion of its local base of operations in the Hartford area. Breeze has been operating at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks since 2021 and has been rapidly expanding at the airport since.

The airline added five nonstop routes in May and several other one-stop routes as well. Two other nonstop routes from Breeze to North Carolina and Florida are set to debut in early February, the company announced earlier this month.

The company’s expansion in Connecticut coincides with another ultra-low-cost carrier doing the same: Avelo Airlines. In July, Avelo announced it would be expanding its Connecticut base of operations to Bradley International Airport beginning in November, with seven new nonstop routes out of the airport debuting at the time.
