Bristol automation specialist expands with acquisition in North Carolina

Bristol-based maker of custom assembly machinery Arthur G. Russell Co. Inc. has acquired a North Carolina maker of automation systems.
AGR says the integration of ProMATIC Automation Inc. will allow it to serve a broader range of companies with customized automation.
“This acquisition allows AGR to better serve customers whose automation needs may not require large, highly sophisticated assembly systems,” said Jason Ensminger, president of AGR. “By integrating ProMATIC’s expertise, we can now offer a wider range of assembly machinery, making high-quality automation accessible to more small and mid-sized companies that we may have previously been unable to accommodate competitively.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
AGR serves a wide range of client companies in life sciences, pharma, consumer goods, electronics, automotive and defense.
ProMATIC has a 37,000-square-foot facility located near Asheville Regional Airport in North Carolina. AGR also says the acquisition will allow it to tap into a larger talent pool in the region, to help replace retiring workers.
The facility adds capacity to AGR’s existing 100,000-square-foot headquarters in Bristol.
