Budderfly signs $1.5 million solar energy contract with CT foamboard company

Contributed Budderfly offers businesses ways to monitor their energy consumption to use power more efficiently.

Shelton-based energy efficiency company Budderfly has signed a $1.5 million contract to lower a Connecticut company’s energy costs over the next 15 years through solar power.

Budderfly said it will provide Gilman Brothers Co., a Gilman-based foamboard products maker, with a 750-kilowatt rooftop solar system, LED lighting, an ultra-high-efficiency HVAC system and several other cost-saving technologies like high-efficiency motors paired with variable frequency drives.

The installation is expected to lower Gilman Brothers’ annual energy costs by 30% and carbon output by 50% over the 15-year period, Budderfly said.

Budderfly, which has contracts with nearly 7,000 customers nationwide, received a $500 million majority-stake investment from Swiss private equity firm Partners Group in 2023.
