A Dallas-based building-materials distributor expected to close its East Hartford location by year-end will begin laying off employees in late December, according to a Department of Labor filing.
Builders First Source, a supplier of structural building materials and services to homebuilders and remodelers, notified the Labor Department last week it will begin terminating 46 employees as early as Dec. 26. The operations at 367 Ellington Road will be permanently closed by Dec. 31, the company said in a WARN notice filed with the Labor Department.
The distributor did not explain the reason for the closure and could not be reached for comment.
As part of the closure, Builders First Source will lay off several drivers, sales representatives, assemblers and drywall carriers, the filing says.
Some of the affected workers are represented by the United Steel, Paper, Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International on behalf of its Local Union No. 8031-12.
The 8.4-acre Ellington Road parcel serves as the company’s hub for distributing cabinets, decking, doors, railings, roofing, shutters, siding and windows, among other products.
Following the East Hartford closure, Builders First Source will no longer have operations in New England. It has about 400 locations in 40 states nationwide.
