Health technology company Butterfly Network’s president and CEO, Dr. Todd Fruchterman, is stepping down, the company announced this week.

Jonathan Rothberg, company founder and board chair, will serve as interim CEO until a permanent replacement is hired.

Rothberg thanked Fruchterman for his “vision, passion and dedication.”

“Todd has built a highly capable leadership team, who will function in the interim to ensure continuity while we conduct a search for a new chief executive who will continue the company’s growth,” Rothberg said.

According to the announcement, Fruchterman’s departure was by mutual agreement. He is also leaving his role as a member of the company’s board of directors.

Fruchterman, who started the job in early 2021, will work with Butterfly’s leadership team through the end of the year to help ensure a smooth transition.

Rothberg founded the company in 2011, and for years it was headquartered in Guilford, at 4Catalyzer, Rothberg’s life sciences incubator. It has since relocated its headquarters to Burlington, Mass., and no longer has operations in Guilford, according to the company.

Butterfly makes a portable, handheld ultrasound device for medical personnel to use on patients.
