Calif. company seeks Greenwich eating disorders outpatient clinic

A California-based company, Center for Discovery, is proposing to open an outpatient clinic in Greenwich for adult men and women who suffer from eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder, according to Certificate of Need (CON) filed with the state Office of Health Care Access.

The clinic would be at a location Center for Discovery currently leases at 7 Riverside Road, Suite 2, where it provides outpatient services to adolescents with eating disorders and has served 284 youth there since 2014. It hopes to provide the services by the end of the year, the CON says.

Center for Discovery does not have an outpatient clinic in the area that provides services to adult males, its CON says, adding that the company has clients that transfer from its residential treatment programs that it would like to transition to its outpatient services for continuity of care. Serving males, in addition to females, also would help an “underserved group when it comes to eating disorder treatment,” it says.

The company has two residential facilities serving adults with eating disorders in Fairfield, the CON says, adding that an outpatient clinic in Greenwich “will provide a step down to a lower level of care with the continuity of the philosophy and clinical approach.”

Center for Discovery touts locations in 11 states, including Connecticut, with programs that also include mental health and substance abuse.
