CCSU names Rosenberg new public policy and practical politics chair

Gabe Rosenberg

A prominent state government official has been appointed to a key role at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU).

Gabe Rosenberg, chief of staff and general counsel of the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s office, was named the school’s next Gov. William A. O’Neill Endowed Chair in Public Policy and Practical Politics, CCSU announced Thursday.

“He possesses a great depth of public policy experience that will certainly enrich our campus community,” University President Zulma R. Toro said.

Rosenberg, who was selected after a national search, succeeds former state Rep. Edwin Vargas.

In the position, Rosenberg will teach courses, organize public lectures and campus forums that address public policy, and collaborate with state leaders on policy initiatives. In addition, he will mentor students pursuing careers in public service.

He will be based in the school’s Center for Community Engagement and Social Research.

Rosenberg’s appointment was approved by CCSU as well as the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities Board of Regents.

The appointment carries a one-year term that can be renewed, at CCSU’s discretion, for up to two additional one-year periods.

Rosenberg has worked on political campaigns at the state and national levels, including Gov. Ned Lamont’s gubernatorial campaign in 2010. He also worked for the state Democratic Party and served five years as communications director for former Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey.

He has a law degree from the University of Connecticut and worked as an associate at the law firm Updike, Kelly & Spellacy.

Rosenberg received a bachelor’s degree in political science from University of Massachusetts Amherst and a master’s degree in political science from Southern Connecticut State University.
