Ahead of the national launch of the 2020 Census, the U.S. Census Bureau says it will increase hourly wages by $2.50 for available positions at Area Census Offices (ACO) in Hartford and New Haven.
The Census Bureau on Thursday announced it will raise hourly pay from $21 to $23.50 per hour for thousands of part-time workers beginning Monday.
Officials say the pay increase is aimed at attracting more qualified candidates for the 2020 Census, which will go live April 1.
The Hartford ACO includes workers from Tolland, Windham and New London counties, and the New Haven ACO includes workers from Middlesex County.
Interested candidates ages 18 or older are urged to learn more about available positions and apply here.
The Census Bureau counts every U.S. resident each decade. An accurate count is needed to determine states’ federal funding allocations.
The Connecticut Complete Count Committee, led by Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz, was launched in Feb. 2019 to direct the state’s efforts in the 2020 census.
Bysiewicz recently penned an op-ed piece in Hartford Business Journal laying out the important role the process has in the state’s economic future.
