Central CT's unsold housing pool deepens

The Hartford area's inventory of unsold houses grew 14 percent in September, a victim of ongoing sales sluggishness, the Greater Hartford Association of Realtor says.

Houses for sale numbered 6,532 last month, up from 5,711 a year ago -- rising for the second straight month, the association said Monday. Inventory grew 13.5 percent in August.

Pending and actual sales also declined, while days on the market lengthened to 78 from 69.

Median sales prices rose slightly to $230,000 in September from $228,000 a year earlier.

Condo inventory and sales also were markedly negative from a year ago, the association said.

But those that did sell were more affordable than, with area condo sales prices falling 3.8 percent to $159,700 from $166,000.
