Green chemistry company P2 Science Inc. has launched another product in its line of cosmetics fluids derived from nature.

The latest, called CitroVisc 10K, was developed for use in both skin and hair care products. According to the company, it provides softening and soothing effects, and reduces tackiness.

It is the third product launched as part of the company’s CitroVisc line, and the eleventh to be commercialized by the company since April 2020.

Ryan Cheng, vice president of business development, said customers have been demanding high-performing and sustainable ingredients to include in their beauty products.

“We are so happy to bring them CitroVisc 10K to meet even more of their needs,” Cheng said.

Neil Burns, CEO of P2, called the latest offering “another silicone alternative breakthrough,” which the company was able to bring to market quickly.

The company is optimistic the product will be well-received due to it being completely bio derived while also providing hydration, according to Burns.

Commercial production of CitroVisc 10K is underway at the company’s manufacturing facility in Naugatuck. The company also has a research lab in Woodbridge, and its products are typically used in the flavor, fragrance and cosmetics markets.

CitroVisc products are derived from forestry by-products from Forest Stewardship Council certified pine trees. Through its Plant a Forest initiative, the company plants trees when it reaches sales goals.

Last year, the company launched its Citrolatum line, which it billed as an alternative to petrolatum, as it has a similar consistency.

Professor Paul Anastas, head of the Yale Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering, co-founded the company, which opened its first manufacturing plant in September 2018.
