Chris Cykley is the vice president of Construction Solutions Group, which provides owner's project management services for municipal, private and nonprofit clients throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts. What's been your biggest professional accomplishment?
I have risen thru the ranks of the engineering and construction industry and developed a respect amongst my peers. I've been able to transition my skills and knowledge from many different aspects and roles into becoming a manager and leader of successful teams and projects. My level of professionalism and knowledge makes clients comfortable and confident.
How are you involved in the community?
I am currently a volunteer head coach and division director for the West Hartford Little League. In the off season, I'm on the board of directors, which helps plan the upcoming season. I'm part of the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce and a parishioner at St. Patrick St. Anthony Church where I occasionally volunteer with my children.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my children, family and friends. Barbeques, boating, fishing, snowmobiling and anything active in the outdoors.
“People skills” are important in many jobs. Give an example of a people-skills habit you adhere to in your work and daily life that you feel has helped you succeed.
I take an interest in my clients both professionally and personally. I may know their professional story based on their position, but rarely do I know their personal story. Taking an interest in them and creating a dialogue creates a connection that develops understanding and trust. It becomes much more than a job.
What do you hope Greater Hartford will be like in 10 years?
My hope would be that the positive movements with the ballpark, the future soccer club, Front Street and UConn downtown are able to bring life into the city from early morning coffee shops, to vibrant lunch spots and concluding with active venues in the evenings that bring everyone together.
Four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty:
• I take a personal sense of pride and satisfaction overseeing the successful construction of public school projects, which ultimately help future generations become leaders.
• Being client-focused and putting them first has resulted in incredible success and respect.
• I am an asset to my company playing many diverse roles within the organization.
• I take pride in motivating people and children through coaching and mentoring.
Fun Fact
I love entertaining and cooking for friends and family.
