Bloomfield-based Cigna has filled a newly created management position in its Connecticut market with a physician who previously worked for neighbor and competitor Aetna.
Dr. Jeffrey Langsam’s official title at Cigna is “market medical executive,” a role in which he will focus on physician and hospital system collaboration, network development, client growth and retention, medical costs and other areas.
Cigna tweaked its management structure last year when it split off Connecticut from its New England market. Wendy Sherry heads the Connecticut market for Cigna.
“This is an important milestone in the evolution of Cigna's Connecticut market and I welcome Dr. Langsam to my leadership team,” Sherry said in a statement.
Langsam, who completed his internal medicine residency at UConn (where he has since taught as an assistant professor), was in private practice for seven years as a hematologist/oncologist and attending physician at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. He also previously worked as a medical director at Aetna.
