Cleveland company pays $14.56M for latest CT self-storage facility purchase

Costar 260 Technology Park Drive, Torrington

A limited liability company affiliated with Cleveland-based Compass Self Storage recently paid $14.56 million for a nearly 21-acre self-storage facility in Torrington.

Compass Self Storage acquired the former All-Star Storage facility at 260 and 300 Technology Park Drive in a sale recorded by the city on Jan. 30.

The Torrington location is the second Connecticut site for Compass, which acquired a 350-unit, 8.9-acre All-Star location in New Hartford last September for $8.6 million.

Attempts to reach a Compass representative were not immediately successful Friday morning.

According to its website, Compass is a member of the Amsdell family of companies based in Cleveland. Amsdell got its start as a family-owned construction company in 1928. The company has owned and operated more than 500 storage centers under various trade names in more than 25 states, according to its website.

The 10.7-acre Torrington property at 260 Technology Park Drive includes nine self-storage buildings, dating to 2001, and ranging from 3,300 to 29,305 square feet. The abutting 10.25-acre property includes six buildings completed in 2006 and ranging from 3,750 to 10,850 square feet.
