ConnectiCare, one of the state’s largest health insurance companies, has expanded and renovated its facility in Waterbury so it can provide more services.

The Waterbury ConnectiCare Center facility, at 835 Wolcott St., now has an additional 1,000 square feet. The company plans to use its larger space for special programs such as fitness classes, health seminars and community events.

According to company officials, the volume of visitors last year prompted the expansion.

As always, visitors can speak with company personnel and get assistance choosing health plans and learning more about individual coverage options at the facility.

Eric Galvin, president of ConnectiCare, said the company has centers like this one around the state to provide personalized attention.

“Our members can get answers to questions, learn how to get the most from their health plans, find doctors and join fitness classes,” Galvin said in an announcement about the expansion.

Non-members are also welcome to use the facility to get information about health plans and participate in educational programs, he said.

“We’re delighted to be in Waterbury creating healthier futures for our customers and the community,” Galvin said.

Starting in 2020, the center will have on-site nurses, certified diabetes nurse educators and social workers to educate visitors on health and wellness topics.

Joseph McGrath, Waterbury’s director of economic development, called the center a “tremendous resource,” which helps promote healthier families and communities.

ConnectiCare also has similar centers in Bridgeport, Farmington, Manchester, Newington and Norwalk.

At the Waterbury location, ConnectiCare has already scheduled several upcoming health- and wellness-related classes and seminars. Visitors can take yoga and Zumba classes, or attend workshops on coping with anxiety, depression and holiday stress, for example.
