Contractor supply business pays $1.4M for former New Haven furniture warehouse

A New Haven industrial building, formerly a furniture store and distribution center, has been sold to the owner of an area contractor supply company.

The 15,000-square-foot building, at 439 Ella Grasso Blvd., was sold by 439 Ella Grasso Blvd LLC to Fitz Sons LLC and principal Patrick Fitzpatrick of New Canaan, for $1.4 million in a deal recorded June 28.

The warehouse, built in 1972, is the former Lisy’s Discount Furniture store, whose owner recently retired, according to Frank Hird of Branford-based commercial real estate firm OR&L, who represented the seller.

The store had been in that location for nearly 13 years, and the building previously was the home of an electrical company and a popcorn and candy distribution center, Hird said. Lisy’s had been a family business for roughly 45 years, he said.

The new owner will use the space for his contractor supply business, Hird said.

The buyer was represented by Rich Edwards and Jeff Wright of Shelton-based Northeast Private Client Group.
