Courant parent approves spinoff of print segment

Hartford Courant parent Tribune Co. said its board of directors has approved an Aug. 4 spinoff of its print newspaper arm—Tribune Publishing Co.

As part of the spinoff Tribune Publishing will become a separate publicly traded company. Its common stock is expected to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol TPUB, with regular trading to start Aug. 5.

The company announced a year ago its intent to split its publishing and broadcast segments, the latter of which includes Connecticut Fox affiliate WTIC-TV.
