Connecticut added 1,100 jobs in August, helping its unemployment rate drop from 4.4 percent to 4.3 percent, the state Department of Labor said Thursday.

The private sector added 1,900 jobs during the month, while the government sector dropped 800, DOL said.

The education and health services supersector saw the most job growth, while trade, transportation and utilities lost the most jobs.

DOL also revised its initial July estimate from a loss of 1,200 jobs to a gain of 500.

A year ago, the state’s unemployment rate was 4.5 percent. Currently there are 80,900 people classified as unemployed, down from 87,000.

The U.S. unemployment rate as of August stood at 3.9 percent, down from 4.4 percent a year prior.
