The Connecticut Airport Authority’s board of directors named Michael W. Shea as its next executive director Thursday.
Shea, who currently serves as CAA’s deputy executive director, will succeed Kevin Dillon in the organization’s top role. Dillon previously announced that he planned to retire in early 2025, and the board began a nationwide search for his replacement in May 2024.
Shea, who was recently recognized as a Hartford Business Journal 2024 C-Suite award winner, started as CAA’s director of finance and CFO in 2013.
Since then, his efforts have more than doubled Bradley International Airport’s non-airline revenue, according to the announcement. He has also worked to keep airline costs low and spur growth by adding new routes, CAA said.
“The CAA Board made an excellent choice in naming Mike Shea as its new executive director,” Gov. Ned Lamont said. “Mike is intimately familiar with the operations of Connecticut’s airports, and he is part of the team that over the last several years is responsible for transforming Bradley International Airport into one of the highest ranked airports in the United States.”
CAA said Shea played an integral role in developing the airport’s new $210 million ground transportation center and helped negotiate a 20-year agreement with rental car companies to support the consolidation of their operations into the facility.
More recently, Shea and his team initiated construction on two major construction projects at Bradley: a $187 million checked baggage inspection system facility and a $58 million passenger vertical circulation project.
Before arriving at CAA, Shea – a licensed public accountant – worked in senior finance roles for real estate and insurance firms. He has a bachelor’s degree from Boston College and a master’s degree in professional accounting from the University of Hartford.
