CT-based subsidiary of Samsung names new CEO

Christian Sobottka

Stamford-based Harman International Industries Inc. announced Monday that its president and CEO, Michael Mauser, will step down effective March 31.

The company said that its board of directors has named Christian Sobottka, president of Harman’s automotive division, to succeed Masuer as president and CEO starting April 1.

Harman, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, develops software and components for connected car technology, audio equipment and other technology solutions.

Harman’s brands include Harman Kardon, Infinity and JBL.

Mauser worked for Harman for more than 27 years and led the company through its acquisition by Samsung in 2017.

"After nearly three decades with Harman and aligned with our diligent succession planning process, I have decided to step away to spend more time with my family and explore new opportunities," Mauser said. "I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and confident in Christian's ability to lead Harman into its next chapter."

Sobottka has 25 years of experience in the international automotive industry. He became president of Harman’s automotive division in January 2021, and previously served as CEO of the German auto parts manufacturer Robert Bosch Automotive Steering GmbH.

Harman employs about 30,000 people across the Americas, Europe and Asia.
