CT colleges receive $7.3M for manufacturing centers

Three Connecticut colleges in Waterbury, Danielson, and Bridgeport received $7.3 million in State Bond Commission funding on Friday to develop three Advanced Manufacturing Centers to train the workforce for in-demand positions in the industry.

Quinebaug Valley Community College in Danielson received the largest chunk, $5 million, to construct its center and purchase machinery and other equipment on its own campus. The college currently is using space at Ellis Technical High School for manufacturing programs.

Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport will use $1.5 million to add a welding lab to its manufacturing center. The college will work with its regional advisory board to pursue faculty.

Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury will receive $825,000 to purchase equipment, like a deep draw press, for its advanced manufacturing center, retrofitted to support local industry needs.
