CT energy efficiency projects honored

Seven Connecticut energy efficiency projects were honored at the first annual Power of Change Award ceremony at the State Capitol.
Tuesday's ceremony was created by three Connecticut foundations, the Common Sense Fund, the Hampshire Foundation, and the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, in hopes to showcase energy efficiency projects produce environmental and economic benefits in the state.
The Innovation award, for new and effective ideas and approaches to achieving energy reduction, went to Southern Connecticut State University for its reduction of electricity use in nine residence halls. Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station's dual fuel burner installation and theConnecticut Department of Motor Vehicle's approach to implementing projects in several buildings received honorable mentions in the category.
The Fast Track Award, for getting out in front by aiming for higher levels of efficiency, was given to Eastern Connecticut State University for the lighting control system upgrade at its J. Eugene Smith Library.
The Most Energy-Efficient Building Award went to both University of Connecticut for its McMahon Dining Hall renovations and the Connecticut National Guard for its Enfield Armory HVAC controls, lighting upgrades and oil burner replacement. The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch received an honorable mention in the category for its Middletown Courthouse Garage lighting retrofit project.
The event also served as a prelude to the upcoming Power of Change Municipal Award program, which will be held on May 21, and is accepting entries until April 15.
