Connecticut’s minimum wage, which jumped 90 cents back in October and will increase by another dollar in September, has got competition.
According to a national analysis by information services provider Wolters Kluwer, a total of 25 other states will raise their own minimum wage in 2020, most of them by this week.
Washington is expected to keep its spot as the highest state minimum wage in 2020, at $13.50 per hour, which will be $1.50 higher than Connecticut’s minimum wage, once it increases in September.
Also higher than Connecticut in the new year will be California and New York (which have varied minimum wages depending on employer size or location). In New England, Massachusetts will be higher at $12.75 per hour, while Maine will also be at $12. Vermont, Rhode Island and New Hampshire will both be lower than Connecticut in 2020.
Under a law passed earlier this year, Connecticut’s minimum wage will continue to phase in over the next four years, reaching $15 per hour in July 2022.
