Dr. Khuram Ghumman, a family medicine physician, was recently inaugurated as the 186th president of the Connecticut State Medical Society (CSMS).

CSMS is a group that represents physicians in Connecticut and is one of the nation’s oldest medical societies. Ghumman succeeds Dr. Stacy Taylor, who just completed her one-year term.

Ghumman, who also serves as president of the Connecticut Academy of Family Physicians, is an advocate for recruiting and retaining physicians in Connecticut. He takes a frontline role in training new physicians, serving as director of the family medicine sub-internship and as associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University in Hamden.

“It is my pleasure to take on this role as CSMS president and continue the society’s push for legislative action to train, attract and retain physicians and provide the best care to all patients in Connecticut,” he said.

Ghumman is a primary care physician with East Granby Family Practice LLC, where he is a partner and has practiced since 2016.

He received his medical degree from Nishtar Medical College, in Multan, Pakistan., and completed his residency at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, where he was elected as a chief resident.

Following his residency, he joined the faculty of the Family Medicine Residency Program at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington and served as an assistant program director. During that time, he also served as  an assistant clinical professor at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia.

Ghumman received a master’s of public health degree from the University of Massachusetts, and he is a Harvard Macy Scholar and alum of the Stanford Faculty Development Center for Medical Teachers at Stanford University in California.

He is a member of the American Association for Physician Leadership, a Certified Physician Executive (CPE), and has held various leadership positions, including being a past president of the Hartford County Medical Association.
