CT Nov. housing starts up 74%

Amid significant activity in New Haven, the state recorded a 74-percent increase in new housing permits during the month of November, new data shows.

There were 444 permits issued last month to erect single- and multi-family dwellings in the 104 cities and towns surveyed monthly by the U.S. Census Bureau, up from 255 in Nov. 2018, according to the state Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD).

New Haven generated the majority of the newly issued permits, accounting for 223 new housing starts in November, followed by Greenwich (16), Danbury (15) and Vernon (13).

The increase follows another significant hike in October, when 1,073 new housing permits were issued, marking the largest number of permits issued in any one month since Nov. 2004.

The November count also raised the full-year 2019 tally to 4,662 vs. 3,068 issued at this time in 2018, Census data showed.
