South Windsor employer Carla's Pasta Inc. is prepared to use a $4 million state loan to expand frozen-pasta production and hire nearly 100 more workers, authorities say.
The governor's office said the State Bond Commission is expected to approve at Wednesday's meeting funding the loan package for the 26-year-old foodmaker that currently employs 94 in its hometown.
Carla's plant is powered by a 300-kilowatt fuel cell from Danbury's FuelCell Energy.
Carla's plans a $26 million expansion that will tack 27,000 more square feet, plus new pasta makers and packaging equipment, onto its 57,000-square-foot plant that produces frozen pasta and pesto at 50 Talbot Lane, authorities said. Its product is shipped throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada and Mexico.
The state Department of Economic and Community Development is offering a 10-year loan at 2 percent interest, forgivable if Carla's fulfills its bargain to retain its 94 workers plus hire at least 98 more during the debt period, authorities said.
