Connecticut’s senior population is once again in the top 10 in the country in an annual ranking of health measures by the United Health Foundation.

This year’s report ranked Connecticut 10th in the country, up two spots from 2014, but down from seventh place in 2013 — the year the foundation launched the report.

The America’s Health Rankings Senior Report assesses several dozen health metrics related to behaviors, environment, policy, clinical care and health outcomes.

Connecticut saw improvements in its flu vaccine coverage and number of home-healthcare workers, and continued to rank highly in dental visits, poverty rates, and access to geriatricians.

In the negative column, Connecticut seniors have relatively high rates of chronic drinking, hospital deaths, food insecurity and use of the intensive care unit.

Vermont was the healthiest state in the ranking, up from fourth place in 2014. Massachusetts ranked fifth, while Maine ranked 11th.
