Connecticut Surgery Center (CSC), an outpatient surgical facility, is planning to move from its Hartford location of 30-plus years to a new 50,000-square-foot facility in Farmington, not far from UConn Health and near myriad other medical offices.
CSC is currently located at 81 Gillett St., across Asylum from the St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center campus. CSC wants to relocate to a newly constructed facility at the intersection of Farmington Avenue and State Highway 508, off Interstate 84, according to a document filed with the state Office of Health Care Access on Jan. 26. The state determined CSC does not need a Certificate of Need for the proposed relocation.
No timing for the move or price of the project was released.
CSC said the move is necessary because its current site has “operational limitations that cannot be corrected given the age and configuration of the building.”
CSC is a joint venture between independent surgical specialists and Surgical Care Affiliates (SCA), which owns and operates multiple licensed surgical facilities in Connecticut and which became part of OptumCare, an affiliate of UnitedHealth Group, last March, the state filing says.
Since then, SCA has been working with ProHealth Connecticut, another OptumCare company, “on ways to build a primary care focused integrated ambulatory care network organized and supported to provide high-quality care at a lower price point by empowering physicians to provide personalized care with exceptional outcomes,” the filing says. “A key principle of this effort will be to create a platform for clinical and operational integration across primary, specialty care and other healthcare ancillary services.”
The new location will be a medical office building housing ProHealth Primary Care, an Express Care site and relocated Connecticut Surgery Center, the filing says.
“Co-location of these services at an easily accessible location in an area that has become a healthcare hub in the Hartford metro area will help to create a network that will benefit patients, providers and payers,” the filing says.
CSC services and staff will not change with the proposed move and there’s no change in anticipated patient population using CSC, the filing adds.
