Connecticut's May unemployment rate of 6.9 percent was the second highest in New England, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
New England's unemployment rate for the month was 5.9 percent, down from 7.1 percent in May 2013.
At 8.2 percent, Rhode Island continues to have the highest unemployment rate. Connecticut's rate was down year over year from 7.8 percent.
The Pacific region (Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington) had the highest jobless rate in May at 7.3 percent. The West North Central region (Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North and South Dakota) had the lowest unemployment rate at 5 percent.
