British gas station and fast food retailer EG Group has entered into an agreement to buy nine Connecticut convenience stores from Waterbury’s Mercury Fuel Services and plans to rebrand them as Cumberland Farms locations.

In a statement, EG Group officials said they expect to complete the deal within the next few months. A purchase price was not disclosed.

According to its website, Mercury Fuel Services owns 23 gas stations and convenience stores in the state, mostly under the “Mercury Price Cutter” name, though it also operates Citgo, Gulf, Mobil, and Sunoco stations. The company has not specified which of its stores will be affected by the pending sale.

EG Group purchased Massachusetts-based Cumberland Farms from the Haseotes family in 2019, bringing around 570 Cumberland Farms locations in the Northeast and Florida under its control.

The company entered the U.S. market for the first time in 2018, when it bought Kroger’s convenience store portfolio. EG’s American division now oversees around 1,700 stores in 31 states.
