CVS Health has told state and city officials it plans to eliminate more jobs at its subsidiary Aetna Inc.’s Hartford office.
A notice, dated April 24 and filed with both the state Department of Labor and Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam, states that CVS Health will conduct layoffs as a result of the closing of its Carefree insurance line of business. It adds that the layoffs will “impact employees that work remotely and report into our facility at 151 Farmington Ave.”
The number of affected employees totals 55, but includes just two Connecticut residents. The rest are located in 19 states across the country.
The notice states the layoffs are “expected to be permanent,” and that the first separations will occur on July 26. A list included with the notice, however, shows that the first layoffs will occur on Aug. 3, and continue through the end of the year.
This is the fourth round of layoffs announced by CVS/Aetna since October, when the companies announced an initial round of 416 layoffs tied to the Hartford health insurer.
Since then, the companies disclosed an additional 200 job cuts tied to Aetna.
In its notice, CVS Health states that the majority of the affected employees “work from home remotely outside of Connecticut but report into a leader located at the facility and so are being included in this WARN notice out of an abundance of caution.”
The notice includes a list that has a column entitled “Employee’s State of Residence (Home Location),” providing the state with information so it “can clearly view the actual Connecticut employee impacts versus out-of-state impacts.”
CVS Health acquired Aetna Inc. in 2018 for about $70 billion.
